Rosie Animal Adoption
The West Island Men's Shed held a meeting on July 13, 2026, where the guest speakers were Lola Bourget and Linda Ladd from Rosie Animal Adoption. Lola and Linda spoke about the volunteer work they do with this non-profit charitable organization, which primarily rescues dogs from horrible and dire situations. Through the work of their volunteers, Rosie Animal Adoption, which was established in 2001, has literally rescued and saved hundreds, if not thousands, of dogs.
Where do the dogs come from? Mostly from puppy mills and from northern territories, where there is an overwhelming number of unwanted dogs because sterilization programs are lacking. Other dogs are surrendered when the owners are no longer able to continue to keep them, like when a person passes away or has been placed in a care facility where pets are not permitted.
At Rosie Animal Adoption, the main goal is to place the dogs in caring homes to be fostered or permanently adopted. For those who are thinking of taking in a dog, previous ownership of a dog is very helpful but not necessarily a prerequisite. Rest assured that once a dog is placed in a home, Rosie Animal Adoption will continue to support the person and dog throughout the process, as much as needed.
Currently, Rosie Animal Adoption’s greatest need is finding people willing to foster dogs until they are adopted. However, there are also many other ways a person can volunteer with Rosie Animal Adoption. This includes helping with fundraisers, public speaking, creating promotional materials, or donating money to this very worthy cause.

West Island Men’s Shed Takes to Their Bikes
It was cloudy outside on July 9, 2026, and threatening to rain. However, this ominous weather did not keep nine West Island Men’s Shed members from taking a long bike ride on the Donegani bike path from Valois Ave. to the Beaurepaire train station. After 45 minutes of pedalling, the members had a well-deserved lunch at La Station Café located in the Beaconsfield train station. A lot of fun was had by all!
