Canada’s 2025 federal election was a nail-biter, with Mark Carney leading the Liberal Party to victory, albeit forming a minority government. Donald Trump actually ended up helping Carney win by showing everyone what a “schlump” Trump is. Canada is not going to be taken over by the US!
Surprisingly enough, the province of Quebec came through. The Liberal Party secured 169 seats, just three short of a majority in Canada’s 343-seat House of Commons. Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative Party followed closely with 144 seats. The Bloc Québécois, led by Yves-François Blanchet, won 22 seats and finished third in the election race.
Pointe-Claire peeps again elected Liberal Francis Scarpaleggia back into the House of Commons. As for our wonderful city of Pointe-Claire, I would hope Francis Scarpaleggia continues to keep our traditions, as well as the unique beauty of the Village. In fact, it would also be nice to even add a few more interesting things, as long as they are in line with the history and charm of the Village.
Perhaps he will fight to get a Schwartz’s Deli into the Village. Although I must concede, we do have some other excellent restaurants that slice some good meat as well! Moe's Bar & Grill near Fairview Pointe-Claire comes to mind and is also to be recommended for their smoked meat, coleslaw, and poutine. And their cheesecakes deserve a thumbs up! And don’t forget local legends Delibee, Chenoy’s, Smoke Meat Pete, or the new kid on the block, Rock’n Deli.
Now I have an intense urge for a smoked meat sandwich. Well, I surrendered to it, drove out to Moe’s, ordered some takeout, including some extra fries, then headed right down to Lac Saint-Louis, knowing I could walk along the trails near and around the Village to burn off the extra calories. And I wanted the new clothes I recently bought to still fit me. Pointe-Claire has so much to offer!
I leave you with a special song for this moment. Feel free to sing out loud!
(Based on Woody Guthrie’s This Land is Your Land)
This city is your land; this city is my land
From the Valois Village to the Fairview wetlands
From Lac Saint-Louis, to the Highway 40
This city was made for you and me.
And now, I would like to share my wish for Canada: shorter winters, but with enough snow for skiers and making giant snowmen/women with raisins for eyes and smiles. Let’s not forget a fresh carrot for a nose and a scarf wrapped around its neck, as it is often quite “frosty!”
Much love (and silliness)!

Bottom line (literally)… I LOVE living in Pointe-Claire!
