We missed you!
We appreciate your patience during our summer break, but we are back and in top form with another edition that makes up for lost time.
This edition offers big news in the world of municipal politics (spoilers: a familiar face in the race for mayor of Pointe-Claire returns and a beloved councillor steps away from politics), a focus on school safety, an update on Fairview Forest, and a number of events and fundraisers supporting many worthwhile causes. Of course, we also have our regular features, including Bonnie’s Babble and another In the Kitchen recipe by John De Luca that even I could probably handle.
The spirit of the Pointe-Claire community is strong, and I hope you’ll join us in attending such great events like the final West Island Blues Festival show, the ever-growing Lyrics and Lemonade concert, the West Island’s 2nd annual Pride celebration, the 41st annual Pointe-Claire Charity Softball Tournament, and the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence Course pour la Compassion.
Many of the happenings around Pointe-Claire can be found on our Around Town page, so be sure to check it out to see if anything piques your interest. And, of course, if you’re holding an event or fundraiser and would like to let us know, email us and we’ll try to get it in our next issue.
We’d like to put out a final reminder to all candidates running in the upcoming municipal election that this is your last opportunity to submit a short piece telling us more about yourself and why and where you’re running.
Reader submissions about the election are also welcome, so feel free to tell us what you are expecting from the next Pointe-Claire city council. You can also submit questions you have for the candidates or about the election in general. We will provide a list of all the candidates running and the election dates in our next publication.
The next deadline for submissions will be October 1st, so that we can have our next issue out by mid-October.
As you may remember from our June issue, there have been a few changes here at The Pointe-Claire Record, so now, more than ever, we can use your support. If you’d like to write a page for us (about 600 words) or work on the technical end of things by doing layout or proofreading, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you to all our readers for keeping things interesting, and wish me luck in not burning down my kitchen!
Deborah Ancel (interim editor, The Pointe-Claire Record)
