Now in its 80th year, the Pointe-Claire branch of the Royal Canadian Legion has been supporting veterans, all while remembering the men and women who sacrificed for our country.
Founded on September 11, 1945, Pointe-Claire's Legion cares for all those who have served our nation. Advocating for veterans by remembering their sacrifices and by continuing the tradition of service in providing essential services in our communities, the Legion honours not only those who have served but the Pointe-Claire community as a whole, bringing groups together and creating a gathering space where people can meet up and share in events and activities.
On May 25th, at 2:00 p.m. at Pointe-Claire's Field of Honour, there will be a remembrance ceremony in which the Dutch Ambassador, Her Excellency Margriet Vonno, will be present to mark the Legion's historic 80th anniversary.
Canada played a leading part in the liberation of the Netherlands between the fall of 1944 and the spring of 1945, and the Dutch have never forgotten. The bond between the two countries, tied together in friendship and freedom, can be witnessed when visiting the Netherlands, with Canadian veterans and delegations still receiving a heroes' welcome 80 years after World War II had ended.
The following Sunday, June 1st, at 9:00 a.m. the Legion will need volunteers to help remove all the Canadian flags laid during the previous week's ceremony from the 22,000 graves of Canada's fallen soldiers and support those who have served.
Veterans, families of veterans, and Canadians without military affiliation are all welcome to join the Royal Canadian Legion and support those who serve. With a variety of membership options, the Legion has as much to offer its members as it does the community. Please visit pclegion057.ca to learn more.
